****DISCLAIMER**** Both covers are for the SAME book. The author changed the cover but at the time of publishing this review, both covers available. The first cover will be the official cover – I love them both and had to include both in case anyone saw the second or received the second there would be no confusion.

The Darkest Damsel: The Twisted Series Book 2

Nicki Grace Read 3/6/2025-3/8/2025

Rating: 5 out of 5.

Just when I thought Nicki Grace couldn’t possibly surprise and shock me more than she did in The Twisted Damsel with the FMC’s, twins Clara and Sydney, she pulls out The Darkest Damsel.  This one takes things to an even darker, more twisted, and gripping level, delivering a psychological thriller that hooks you from start to finish. Clara and Sydney are back to prove that not all damsels need saving – some are more than capable of saving themselves.

I was especially glad to see more of Barbara in this book, which helped clear up a lingering question I had from The Twisted Damsel. By the end of that book, I was torn between two theories, unsure of which one was true until it was finally answered in TDD

Clara really demonstrates her deep understanding of her sister in TDD.  In Twisted, she seemed aware, but still somewhat in the dark about Sydney’s secret hobby. This time, though, there’s no doubt she knows exactly what her sister enjoys.

One quote from Clara about Sydney really stood out to me and had me laughing:

“I have no delusions about my sister’s deadly nature. She is a twenty-three-year-old, complex, fashion-obsessed, cold-blooded killer.”

As we learned in TTD, Clara and Sydney have faced unimaginable trauma, leaving them with deep mental struggles.  But life isn’t done testing them yet.  A delusional, psycho serial killer has set his sights on Clara – though we all know that Clara and Sydney are a package deal.  His plan is to keep Clara safe by putting her on a pedestal and caring for her forever.  Lucky for Clara, the killer doesn’t realize that, while he may have her in his sights, he’s about to face the wrath of Sydney.  In my best Sydney voice, “Let the games begin.”

Once again, readers are treated to an unsettling journey while Grace delivers a fast-paced, dark psychological thriller, full of twists and turns, ending with a double plot twist like no other – a twist that truly stands out as one of the most shocking I’ve read to date.   I still can’t figure out how Grace manages to pack so much detail into such a short book, but it will keep you on the edge of your seat until the final word of the epilogue!

Thank you to Nicki Grace for allowing me to be on her ARC team and read The Darkest Damsel.  As always, all opinions and reviews are of my own volition. I have not been promised any compensation by the author, present or future, for my reviews.
