So, this is a revised version of the original Whispering Rain review in January. The original version was written during the start of my writing journey, and the reviews were rough LOL. I’ve taken it upon myself to update and give all the older reviews a fresh update worthy of each books rating instead of the reviews I originally wrote – basically the book report versions LOL.
Whispering Rain
–Jessica Lynn Sorensen Read 1/20/2025-1/21/2025
Whispering Rain is the second installment in Sorensen’s Detective Caleb Reed series. While it can easily be read as a standalone, having read A Stranger Within, the first book, will only enhance the experience by providing deeper background and context for some references made in Whispering Rain.
In this gripping story, Detective Caleb Reed is back and tasked with finding a missing 4-year-old girl, Bailey Moore. What seems like a simple case quickly unravels when the parents’ stories clash with one another. While the mother claims Bailey vanished from her bed overnight, the father insists she died in a tragic car accident months ago. It’s up to Caleb to uncover the truth and understand why their accounts differ so drastically. What really happened to little Bailey?
As Reed navigates a maze of secrets, he is joined by a cast of complex yet well-rounded supporting characters. Sorensen excels at creating unique personalities that add emotional depth, allowing readers to connect with them on a profound level. The exploration of past traumas and hidden secrets adds a psychological layer, making for a captivating read.
The narrative promises a thrilling psychological ride, keeping readers guessing until the very last page. The surprising twists genuinely caught me off guard several times – just when I thought I had figured out the plot, Sorensen threw in unexpected revelations that left me stunned. The fast pacing and smooth transitions maintain suspense while skillfully weaving in plot twists keep readers on the edge of their seats.
For fans of well-structured plots, richly developed characters, and unexpected twists, Whispering Rain is must-read. The book not only provides a thrilling journey but also concludes with satisfying endings. While Sorensen is a new author on my radar, her ability to craft such an engaging psychological thriller has left me eager to explore her other books.
As someone who had the privilege of reading an advance copy as part of the Alpha/Beta/ARC readers, I can confidently say that Whispering Rain is a testament to Sorensen’s talent as a storyteller. As always, all opinions and reviews are of my own volition. I have not been promised any compensation by the author, present or future, for my review.
