Takeout Delivery: Prepare to see your delivery app in a new, unsettling light.

After losing her job, Jess Morgan (FMC) turns to delivering takeout to make ends meet.  But when her app dings for her next delivery, an eerie feeling creeps in as she notices the address is far from town.  Handing over the food, she’s haunted by a piercing scream ripping through the night from inside the house, embedding itself in her core.  Frightened, Jess retreats to her car and rushes home – but she can’t shake the scream or what might be waiting behind the door she just delivered to.  Curiosity becomes obsession as she begins investigating both her client and the home, dragging her deeper into danger and fostering a bone-chilling fear for her life.  Will Jess unravel the web of terror she’s entangled in, or will a simple takeout order be her demise?

In The Delivery, Powers exemplifies her talent for richly developing characters – flawed, vulnerable, yet compelling – creating a visceral sense of realism that pulls readers into Jess’s journey of discovery and resilience.  Her raw portrayal of heartache, fear, and courage makes her struggles authentic and relatable, intensifying the story’s emotional impact.

Powers’ writing style is sharp, haunting, and immerses you in an ominous atmosphere that seamlessly intertwines with high-stake scenes of stalking and pursuit.  The pacing is impeccable, with smooth transitions that keep readers on edge until the final, shocking revelation.

As I’ve said in past reviews, Powers is a master of misdirection, expertly keeps you guessing, tossing red herrings and twisting perceptions to keep you second-guessing every character’s motives.  Her storytelling embodies the essence of a psychological thriller – emotionally intense, thought-provoking, and unrelenting.  It underscores the dark realities of takeout delivery safety, emphasizing the importance of awareness.

I was utterly captivated by The Delivery.  The storyline, the twists – oh, the twists! – had my mind racing through every conceivable scenario.  Powers carefully teases clues, leading you to believe you have it all figured out, only to shatter your assumptions with each revelation.  She’s a true mistress of suspense.  I wish you the best of luck at figuring anything out before she is ready for you to.

If you love dark, engrossing psychological thrillers that grip you from page one and refuse to let go, The Delivery is an absolute must-read.  Highly recommended – unless you’re a delivery driver, then maybe think twice about the horrors that may await you at the next ding!
