Happy Wednesday Y’all!!!
I hope everyone is doing well! We are headed back towards home this week so I am reading and writing on the road. One of the first books I ever read by Jessica Lynn Sorensen was Echoes of the Hunted: Till Death Do You Part last December and that started my fangirl obsession.
On the drive yesterday I pulled up the original review I wrote knowing it needed to be refreshed. The problem, I couldn’t for the life of me remember what the book was about other than it was an amazing read along with the basics of who/what happened, but I did remember it hooked me on Jessica’s writing. So, my only option was to read it again. After what felt like no time at all, but I am estimating a couple hours max, I was once again finished and rememered why I started devouring everything Sorensen could put out. With that, on to the new and improved review!!!
Oh, one last thing, I can’t resist sharing this pic of the hubby. As of 4/19/2025 he officially retired and on the drive yesterday admitted he is enjoying the stress free part of not working.

He def took advantage of the chair I declared my reading spot at the hotel LOL!
Echoes of the Hunted: Till Death Do You Part
~Jessica Lynn Sorensen Read December 2024 & May 2025
“Serial killers are a lot like readers if you think about it.”
First line of the Prologue – and I was HOOKED. Sorensen gives you one of those thought-provoking openers that makes you pause. I’m not condoning murder by any means, but because it made me reflect on the psychology behind both readers and killers – the obsession, patterns, intent to understand something deeper, darker, more intriguing. It definitely sets the tone for the book.
Echoes of the Hunted is a gripping tale of murder, infatuation and loyalty – wait, what?
Angela Wallace (FMC) is the lone survivor of a brutal kidnapper and serial killer known only as The Game Changer – a self-given moniker – when a twisted sense of justice involves punishing those deemed morally corrupt, those participating in flirtatious encounters and adultery. Being the only escapee of The Game Changer, Angela has become a crucial witness and potential key to ending his reign of terror. Her newfound freedom comes with a price, haunted by trauma and possibly falling in love, Angela must navigate a new reality where trust is scarce and danger still lurks around the corner.
Will Angela’s survival be the beginning of another nightmare or her happily ever after?
Sorensen has presented us characters with depth and dual POV’s that cut deep with Echoes of the Hunted. Creating characters that are layered, emotionally resonant with vulnerabilities that give us that realism we expect when reading a psychological thriller.
Angela’s POV is presented as raw and real. We don’t just read about her experiences, we feel them. Her vulnerability, confusion, pain and strength surge from the pages. Sorensen doesn’t sugarcoat the trauma; instead, she gives readers a front-row seat to both the mental and emotional toll. That depth is what made Angela’s journey so immersive and all too realistic.
With The Game Changer though, I didn’t form the same emotional connection and I don’t think we were meant to. While being an important character in the story, I feel the POV that Sorensen was going for with The Game Changer wasn’t for sympathy or understanding. Instead, it enhanced the psychological tension and provides chilling insight into the distorted reasoning behind the crimes while giving us an outside look at Angela’s feelings. A tad unsettling, but highly effective.
Echoes of the Hunted is as immersive in its atmosphere as its character development. One of the brilliant strengths of this book is how it creates a powerful sense of place AND emotion. Sorensen excels at her ability to pull the reader into her world, I felt as if I was with Angela, not just reading about her experiences but living them with her.
With the dual POV’s, I did notice things feeling a bit choppy at times during transition from one chapter to another. I think during those moments, a little more detail could have maintained a smoother flow. Overall, the pacing is sharp and relentless leaving readers breathless (not to mention sleep deprived) because you just can’t put the book down. I’ve read this book twice now and both times I was unable to take a break, reading it under two hours each time. I just HAD to know what was going to happen.
Sorensen addresses intense themes – kidnapping, domestic violence, stalking and mental health – head-on, but with care and compassion. Instead of using them for shock value, she uses these elements to deepen the emotional stakes and create a story that feels both authentic and respectful.
One of the greatest strengths of this book is the immense psychological nuance.
And the ending? Jaw-dropping! There are so many twists you won’t see them coming and just when you THINK you have it figured out, Sorensen will pull the rug out from under you. During my first read, I had a few theories about what was going on. I couldn’t have been more wrong with the exception of one minor detail that doesn’t even come close to touching the core of the plot’s twists and turns.
If you are looking for a fast-paced, psychological thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat, Echoes of the Hunted: Till Death Do You Part needs to be moved up on your TBR list. Be sure to set aside some quiet time you can read without interruptions as this is one of those books you WON’T be able to put down.
