~Brad Ricks Read 12/3/2024-12/4/2024 Revised Review 3/21/2025
How to start this review? I have sat here contemplating the perfect way to open my review that will make you understand this is a MUST read. Then I got to thinking, why do I believe that it’s a MUST read? Well, there’s the answer on how to convince everyone.
Expect something sinister under the tree to unwrap this year!
So,I am one of those Hallmark Christmas lovin’ girls from time to time. Sometimes you just need the sicky sweet, predictability. Not to mention the capability of putting one on as background noise, and then one hour fifteen minutes into a two hour movie you can still figure out what is going on.
Then, there are times, like in To Hell With Hallmark, you just need a little chaos and ol’ fashion slasher gore. Having them as short stories, each built upon the other, that intertwines with one another to create one big story and finale’ makes this even better!
Ricks takes Hallmark themes to a new level, then eviscerates them – it’s a beautiful thing. A completely fresh start to the worn out themes used every year, over and over. Bringing Hell to Hallmark is a unique, well-thought out perspective for creating a Christmas thriller and I am here for it, and hopefully future holiday sequels.
While this is definitely a quick read, each story is worthy of merit on its own. The pacing in each story is smooth and has seamless transitioning. While there isn’t time in a short story to build a backstory for each character, you don’t need them to latch onto these characters and hold on for dear life – in more ways than one!
Ricks has created a timeless Christmas class with To Hell With Hallmark for everyone out there. To the ones who despise Hallmark movies. He’s got you. For the ones who love Hallmark movies but need a brief respite, he’s got you. And for everyone else out there looking for a great thrill but loves a little Christmas spirit. He’s got you.
Run out and grab To Hell with Hallmark and give it a read, you won’t regret it. And if we get enough people to do so, maybe we can talk Ricks into expanding his solo book into a series to include all the holidays year after year!
As always, all opinions and reviews are of my own volition. I have not been promised any compensation by the author, present or future, for my review.
