I am a die-hard fan of Jake and his minions, so knowing what they hold in their pockets, I wasn’t sure what to expect. But what I found was an unexpected, clever blend of dark fantasy themed piece of work with psychological aspects, dry wit and emotional depth.

Soul Connection has proved, not that die-hard fans doubted, that Peter is a versatile and multi-faceted author. He masterfully writes with skill and precision, along with being able to bring levity and humor to his dark and twisted world.

At the heart of this story is Rick Black (MMC), better known as the Grim Reaper. Usually busy ferrying souls into the afterlife, Rick’s latest mission comes with a twist – he’s invited to join Soul Connection, a not-so-average dating show where “connections transcend the physical.” Confused but intrigued, Rick accepts the challenge, stepping out of his comfort zone and into a spotlight he never asked for.

Rick’s skepticism quickly turns into bemused tolerance as he navigates the game-like setting of the show, brushing shoulders with other eccentric suitors. He’s got his dating persona down, playing the part but feeling nothing – until he hears her. Morticia. One voice. One spark. And suddenly, the Grim Reaper feels something he’s not sure he was ever meant to feel: desire, curiosity… maybe even more.

Torn between his eternal duty and something beautifully human, Rick must decide what truly matters. Can Death himself fall in love, or is he destined to walk alone?

Soul Connection isn’t just a departure for Peter – it’s a revelation. With sharp humor, immersive detail, and brilliant pacing, Peter proves he’s not just a master of the dark and twisted, but of contrast and heart as well. I found myself laughing out loud, unexpectedly moved, and completely immersed. The world-building was so vivid I could practically hear the mic checks and the shuffling of feet on set.

If you’re a fan of psychological thrillers, dark humor, or simply want something refreshingly different, Soul Connection is a must-read (or must-listen – I highly recommend the audiobook). Victor Peter has once again proven he can do it all – and do it flawlessly.
