BOOK SYNOPSIS:
Bronx Rousselle let no one get close enough to matter. A few familiar faces. Nothing owed, and no ties he couldn’t leave behind. Until something old, hidden, finds its way into his hands. Not valuable in any ordinary sense, yet impossible to ignore. It draws attention quickly—the kind that does not ask and does not wait. What begins as annoyance becomes deadly pursuit, forcing Bronx out of the life he’s crafted on purpose.
His path leads north, where the world strips a man down to what remains when comfort is gone. Ice, wind, silence—unrelenting silence—and the growing sense that danger does not always come from what’s chasing him, but from the price the journey demands. Bronx begins choosing allies—people he never meant to need and cannot leave behind once he does. The shift is gradual, almost unnoticeable—then it breaks. And when the moment comes to choose what can be carried forward—and what must be left behind—he understands that some risks are not measured in survival, but in who you are willing to stand with when the cost is no longer yours alone.
My Review:
The Frequency by Randall St. Claire hums with secrets buried decades deep, immersing readers in a journey of self-discovery, ancestral revelations, and relentless danger.
Bronx Rousselle, a former hockey player turned pawnshop owner, has built a life defined by solitude. That changes when Heather, a local RN, and her brother George arrive seeking refuge from mysterious pursuers over a box inherited from George’s father. Despite his reservations and growing concern over what the box may contain, Bronx agrees to help them, unknowingly setting himself on a journey of his own.
From that box emerges a riddle he cannot comprehend, written in Syllabics, despite having been translated. Add to that a steadily rising body count and danger lurking around every corner, and Bronx finds himself forced from the safety of his home and business. Headed north toward the Arctic Circle, he must decipher the mystery while trying to eliminate the threats against both his life and the lives of others.
St. Claire completely mesmerized me with the character of Bronx. He is crafted with remarkable depth, relatability, and humanity. By the end of the novel, he no longer felt like a fictional character but rather an old friend whose triumphs and struggles I had witnessed firsthand. Watching him endure not only the brutal challenges of man against nature but also his own morally gray evolution made his journey all the more compelling. The supporting cast lands exactly where they should, possessing enough depth and backstory to remain engaging without ever stealing the spotlight from Bronx.
I do have one character mention that I will leave intentionally vague, who comes in second only to Bronx on my favorites list, and that is… Driftwood. That’s all I’m saying. Once you’ve read the story, you’ll completely understand the reference and, hopefully, agree.
The Frequency moves at a brisk yet steady pace, even during its quieter, more isolated moments. It’s packed with tension and action, all underscored by a subtle thread of romance. The atmosphere is richly detailed and cinematic, whether St. Claire is painting scenes of gunfire, harsh tides and unforgiving terrain, or the familiar confines of the pawnshop itself. Some readers may find the more secluded stretches a bit slower paced. I personally didn’t, but I can understand how the shift from action to tension-building might feel that way. Trust me when I say the payoff is well worth the patience.
Overall, The Frequency by Randall St. Claire is a nail-biting, tension-filled thriller with enough bite to keep you reading far past your bedtime for “just one more chapter.” This character-driven suspense novel deserves a spot on your TBR. Released on July 21, 2026, it is available now on Amazon.
