Crossroads

~Mark A Daniel

Rating: 5 out of 5.

It started as a dare. It ended in death.

When a high school student livestreams a dare to explore the decaying, long-abandoned Walker House, he doesn’t make it out alive. One misstep, a fatal fall – and just like that, Eastland County is once again reminded that the past never stays buried.

Sheriff Jason Campbell (MMC) has lived in Eastland his whole life. He knows this place holds more than just small-town secrets – it’s where the veil between worlds is dangerously thin. Although the boy’s death at the Walker house shows no signs of foul play, Jason knows something darker is lurking in the darkness.

Sixteen-year-old Emmy Moore (FMC), along with her loyal dog Patch, feels it too. Drawn inexplicably to the Walker House, Emmy can sense the pull of ancient forces. With knowledge passed down from her grandmother, Emmy along with her friend Moncerrat are the next in line of generational witches. The girls know their help will be needed to stop the evil forces threatening to break through.

As the body count rises, the enemy remains unseen, and time runs short. Sheriff Campbell must work alongside the girls to confront a malevolent force that threatens to consume all of Eastland County. But will it be enough?

Crossroads delivers more than just chills and suspense. Its characters are grounded, real, and familiar – you don’t just read their story, you live it. With a fast-paced narrative, multiple POVs, and expertly woven timelines, the tension builds chapter by chapter, keeping you breathless until the very end.

Mark A. Daniel crafts a paranormal thriller that is both haunting and immersive. Ghosts, generational magic, and a battle between good and ancient evil – this is a story that grips you and refuses to let go.

While Crossroads can be read as a standalone, I recommend reading the three prior novels in the Black Mass series.

Thank you to Mark A. Daniel for allowing me to Alpha/Beta/ARC for Crossroads. As always, all opinions and reviews are of my own volition. I have not been promised any compensation, current or future, from the author or publisher for leaving a fair and honest review.
