With her typical slash and dash style, Donaldson has done it again with this short story novella!!

Alice (FMC) works as a writer in a group of all men who do half the work yet believe they are superior. Her boss, the pugnacious prick, makes it worse by condoning their attitudes having his own self-righteous attitude. Tired of the male dominated office pushing off all the work on her, she decides it is time to do something about her boss.

Will Alice turn his attitude around bringing an about face to the office? Or will she have to take things into her own hands to get them right?

Being a short story, the characters have no background but it isn’t needed. Donaldson writes her characters, whether novel or short story, to the point you feel them in their current form and you grow with them. Alice was no different, you picked up on Alice’s demeanor and intentions from the start and carried out her plans with her. She was the perfect short story FMC.

The pacing was quick, encouraging you to keep reading because you HAD to know what happens next. Donaldson keeps imagery vivid and thematic – you know where you are from the descriptions and as things change, they change along in your mind as well.

If you are looking for a quick, quirky, fun read The Boss by AV Donaldson is definitely one that will clear your mind. It took me about 15 minutes tops to read it.

Go out and grab The Boss and have a chuckle – maybe you will relieve a little tension when it comes to your boss/employee relationship by reading it.
