Silent Night, Haunting Presents
~Rowan Glynn
Sssooooo … this really is an unbiased review on my part since it’s, well, MY BOOK!!!
Do y’all realize how freaking exciting it is to say that??? I am so over the moon to release this!!!
Is it perfect the perfect psychological holiday thriller novel? Not to everyone’s standard’s, I’m sure.
Is it genuine, written with heart and emotion? You darn tootin’ it is!
I started with an idea, tried to be all neat and precise by writing it down and creating outlines, first and second drafts – you know, the way writing a novel is describe when taking classes and the like. But then, one afternoon, I sat down with nothing but my tablet, my earbuds playing my ADHD distraction music, and wrote. From there, I developed the story to where it is now.
I know there will be some who won’t care for it – whether it be the triggers, the content, the fact that it has a slow burn section, or how it ends. But that’s ok. That is what reading is all about! Discovering and exploring stories, determining what we like and what we don’t, and, giving honest and fair feedback based on the story (not our personal feelings).
This part, I’m writing from the reviewer’s voice, as I read every story just that way. Knowing that not every story will be my cup up tea, but it doesn’t mean the story development and characters are not worthy of a good review.
Book Blurb direct from the inside cover, and what will be printed on the back cover once the paperback proof has been received and approved – which is estimated to be Christmas Eve. What a Christmas Present for me!!!
Silent Night, Haunting Presents by Rowan Glynn
Returning to her snow-blanketed hometown of Slater Falls, Rhode Island – Gerri Phillips hopes to survive her first Christmas since the death of her son, Kyle. She’s rented a rustic little cabin on the outskirts of town, far enough away from family and friends, still close enough if she needs help. Determined to find a sense of peace in her life until the arrival of mysterious presents shatters all hopes of achieving wanted to peace. Each present, wrapped in familiar paper and ribbon with tags labeled to her from her son – in his handwriting.
The first present leaves Gerri feeling as if someone is playing a cruel, vicious prank. But as presents and unexplainable events start to happen, her reality becomes convoluted. Those around her seem far more concerned about her past ‘issues’ than the physical presents in her possession. As Christmas Eve nears, Gerri discovers a disturbing connection.
However, when the last present appears, it won’t be wrapped in familiar paper and ribbon. Instead, it will be bathed in the flames of truth and fire.
Now, if I were reviewing this as a book that wasn’t mine, I would do so as follows:
Gerri Phillips, grieving mom, has taken advice from her doctor to get away from her daily life to help cope with the loss of her son last Christmas. She rents a cabin in her hometown, close enough to family, yet far enough away that she isn’t having her every move watched. Settling into the cabin, she feels an eerie presence but plays it off as nerves. But when strange things start happening – including the arrival of presents wrapped in the same paper from last Christmas with things only very few would know about, Gerri has to wonder. Is she being haunted, hunted, or losing her mind.
Will Gerri be able to sort through the mess that is her life to determine whether she’s losing her mind – again? Or if someone is trying to manipulate her into thinking she is losing her mind again?
Well, maybe I don’t want to review it and influence anyone’s thoughts – sorry, I just don’t feel it fair to give my opinion on my writing. Even though I have my own critique, some improvements I could make, and things I feel I excelled at.
So, won’t you give Silent Night, Haunting Presents a read and give this debut author the thrill of her life with a few reviews – hopefully not one-star, LOL, but be honest based on the story itself not on your feelings.
Thanks, for reading and I hope you enjoy reading Silent Night, Haunting Presents by Rowan Glynn – my pen name – as much as I enjoyed writing it.
Oh, and I def have caught the writing bug but I will tell you all that it isn’t for the faint of heart. There is a lot more involved to authoring a book versus reading and writing a review. I will continue to work both sides of the pen as I love both reading and reviewing for you all, and have fallen in love with writing as well.
