Hey y’all!! Welcome!! Who is The Tx Lit Chic?
I’m Karen, also known as TheTxLitChic. You can find me on most social media and bookish platforms under this name. I’ve been happily married to my wonderful USMC husband for so long that I sometimes forget our anniversary. (I know, it’s usually the guys who forget, but hey!)
We have two adult children who have blessed us with four amazing grandchildren. It is probably pretty obvious; I’m a proud Texan—born and raised. For a few short years we lived in New Mexico for my husband’s job. I’m also the caregiver for my father 24/7. I’m dog whisperer to our boxer and blue lab. I would totally have a farm if my husband would allow it! LOL.
My love for reading began as a child. My grandmother taught me to read using the Bible while my parents worked. During the day, she’d entertain me by playing school focusing on reading and spelling. When my grandfather came home, it was all about Wheel of Fortune and who would solve the puzzle fastest.
As I got older, I couldn’t resist grabbing any book or magazine within reach. I was even known to sneak my mom’s Harlequin Romance novels. I’m sure they were probably a bit too risqué for my age. My mom was a huge fan of the TV series Dark Shadows of the 60’s & 70’s. I think that sparked my love for all things slightly creepy – even if the episodes we watched seem pretty corny now!
As an adult, my mom and I bonded over the Alex Cross series by James Patterson and Dean Koontz novels. We loved any other crime, drama, or suspenseful reads we found. After she passed in 2011, I couldn’t bring myself to read another Patterson or Koontz book. It was too painful to be reminded that I couldn’t share them with her anymore. For a while, I avoided reading altogether and dove headfirst into various crafts, from scrapbooking to machine embroidery. (I still have all the supplies stashed in the garage!)
About five years ago, I rediscovered my passion for reading. Thanks to free Kindle books and Kindle Unlimited I never looked back. In 2024, I stumbled upon indie psychological thriller authors. Now I’m hooked on everything I can find from indie writers. I try to review every book I read on Goodreads, Amazon, and Facebook. It was suggested that I start a blog to share my reviews and quirky experiences, so here I am!
I’d love to hear your thoughts—what you like, what you don’t, and any suggestions for future reviews. Feel free to comment with anything book-related!
Thank you for visiting my little bookshelf here on the web. I hope you enjoy the content. If you do, please spread the word about my blog and social media if you do!!!
